Replace Missing Teeth

If you lose one or more teeth due to periodontal disease, or another cause, there is hope. Dental implants are changing the way people live! They are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved. Patients with dental implants can smile with confidence.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved. The implants themselves are tiny titanium posts that are surgically placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. These metal anchors act as tooth root substitutes.

The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Small posts that protrude through the gums are then attached to the implant. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth. Dental Implants also help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing.

Evaluation

If, like many others, you feel implant dentistry is the choice for you, we ask that you undergo a dental/radiographic examination and health history. During these consultation visits, Dr. Kaye and Dr. Rabe will address your specific needs and considerations. Your questions and concerns are important to us and our team will work with you very closely to ensure you have the information you need to make an informed decision.

We will also discuss fees and insurance at this time. There are many types of insurance plans, and coverage for implants is varied. We will be happy to assist you in obtaining any benefits to which you may be entitled.

The Surgical Procedure

For most patients, the placement of dental implants involves two surgical procedures. First, implants are placed within your jawbone. Healing time following surgery varies from person to person and is based on a variety of factors, such as hardness of bone. In some cases, implants may be restored immediately after they are placed.  For the first three to six months following the surgery, dental implants are beneath the surface of the gums gradually bonding with the jawbone. You should be able to wear temporary dentures and eat a soft diet at this time. At the same time, your restorative dentist designs the final restorative work that will ultimately improve both function and aesthetics.

After the implant has bonded to the jawbone, the second phase begins. Dr. Kaye and Dr. Rabe will uncover the implants and attach a small healing collar. After two weeks your general dentist will be able to start making your new teeth. An impression of the site will be taken by your general dentist, then posts or attachments can be connected to the implants. The teeth replacements are then made over the posts or attachments. The entire procedure usually takes six to eight months. Most patients do not experience any disruption in their daily life.

What Types of Prosthesis are Available?

A single prosthesis (crown) is used to replace one missing tooth – each prosthetic tooth attaches to its own implant. A partial prosthesis (fixed bridge) can replace two or more teeth and may require only two or three implants. A complete dental prosthesis (fixed bridge) replaces all the teeth in your upper or lower jaw. The number of implants varies depending upon which type of complete prosthesis (removable or fixed) is recommended. A removable prosthesis (over denture) attaches to a bar or ball in socket attachments, whereas a fixed prosthesis is permanent and removable only by a professional.

Dr. Kaye and Dr. Rabe perform in-office dental implant surgery in a hospital-style operating suite, thus optimizing the level of sterility. Inpatient hospital implant surgery is for patients who have special medical or anesthetic needs or for those who need extensive bone grafting from the jaw, hip or tibia.

Dr. Kaye and Dr. Rabe have received extensive training in Dental Implantology. Through continuing education, Dr. Kaye and Dr. Rabe are abreast of the most current information on implant dentistry, such as TEETH-IN-AN-HOUR™.

I was in need of implants...

I was in need of implants. I had a consultation with Clear Choice. I found them to be callous and impersonal – and when going through something like this, you want to be assured that you are being well treated and well taken care of. This is an emotional process and it can also be financially straining. However, with Dr. Speer I found amazing care and flexibility. She was with me the entire way. She gave me access to her personal number – not something all doctors do – so that she could assist me with an questions or issues I might have. She was incredibly caring and I felt very safe. The staff is also wonderful. They worked with my schedule and were flexible and kind. What an all-star team! I am now feeling more confident than I have in years. Adjusting to my implants has been much easier than anticipated. The roof of my mouth is uncovered (something that does NOT happen when you get with regular dentures) and my smile is better than ever. I have been a patient for Dr. Speer’s for four years and I would never change that. She is an incredibly talented surgeon and a wonderfully kind person. I would highly recommend this doctor.

I had the Teeth-In-An-Hour procedure and could not be happier...

I would like to thank Dr. Speer and her entire staff for giving me a beautiful smile. I had the Teeth-In-An-Hour procedure and could not be happier. It is all fixed (no taking teeth out of my mouth to clean like dentures). I can’t believe I have my smile back!

Dr. Speer did an excellent job on my implant surgery...

Dr. Speer did an excellent job on my implant surgery. I am very satisfied with my implant. And in the postop recovery period, my pain was so minimal that I did not need to take any pain medicine. I would continue to see Dr. Speer, but I have moved to another state.

...well respected among her peers and her patients...

Dr. Speer is a knowledgeable, caring, and attentive young doctor. She noted a problem with my tooth and recommended an extraction and a dental implant. I told her that I needed a second opinion (she is a young doctor) and I went to see a highly credentialed older dentist. He totally concurred with Dr. Speer and mentioned that she was an excellent doctor. She is well respected among her peers and her patients. I will always go to her.

Dr. Speer and her staff were incredible...

I started with Dr. Blanton in 2010 and Dr. Speer took over my treatment in 2013. Dr. Speer did the major surgery on my mouth, correcting the damage caused by another dentist. I ended up needing a sinus lift, two bone grafts, four implants and two gum grafts....all at one time! Dr. Speer and her staff were incredible. They coached me through the whole procedure, making sure I understood everything and really pounded the pre-op and post op procedures into me to make sure everything was understood. Dr. Speer stayed in contact with me, through that evening and the next day - to make sure I was ok and that I was being watched by my husband. I phoned once with a worry, and they listened to me and got me through that. She completed my follow ups and gave me her cell phone. I couldn't be happier with their care...

I would highly recommend Dr. Speer to anyone needing dental implants...

Dr. Speer and the staff are professional, warm, and welcoming. I had a recent implant that went beautifully. Dr. Speer was very knowledgeable and straight forward. After careful research it was important to me to know that my implant was placed by someone who is Board Certified to place implants (three years additional training and Board approval) and not by someone who has taken some continuing education classes to do their implants. I would highly recommend Dr. Speer to anyone needing dental implants.
